Our next meeting was with Public Diplomacy Practitioner Mr Phil Lawlor and his team. Theme of interaction was the role of Special Operating Forces (SOF) of the US in the world. It was created by Congress in 1979 Hostage Crisis in Iran. Since then it operated to protect the interest of the US staff. However, from 9/11 it mode if functioning has changed. Now it undertakes a joint approach involving the local setup, including the NGOs and social activists. It cooperates the govt in their request; trains their forces to combat unwanted elements and assist in maintaining peace and stability in different parts of the world. As they informed n more than 75 countries around 65000 SOF are deployed and mostly are in small countries. They shared their experiences in Lebanon.
