Our perception of behavior: food for thought.... The next time - TopicsExpress

Our perception of behavior: food for thought.... The next time your bird lunges at your face aggressively with his wings out screaming and you think he is being mean and your feelings are hurt- you may want to reconsider your interpretation. These are two very bonded macaws that have multiple ways off of the atom they are sitting on and multiple opportunities to leave. To the unknowing observer this may seem like an aggressive altercation or a dangerous fight but the truth is its just playful and fun. These birds are also fully flighted and have many choices an opportunity is on where to sit and when to interact they choose this rough housing behavior quite often and afterwards usually long preen sessions are involved and pair bonding regurgitation. Its very interesting to me to see how they mix macaw body language with human speech to communicate with each other!
