Our pets go from kittens and puppies in a flash, it seems... A friend wrote this of her declining kitty...anyone whos had this happen can, painfully, relate...she really nailed it...this is why we cherish every moment... Last days Wobbly walks with whiskers frayed Once bright eyes dimmed with weary days Sink piled high with dirty dishes Bottomless tears whisper desperate wishes Curled round frail body through the night Holding onto love with all my might Pills and droppers and apologies Weak paw protests my heart to bleed Clean your fur and gentle caresses Encourage relief - Ill clean your messes I beg the universe, I curse the sky, luminous eyes look to me as in why? I always had answers Could always protect you But now on the threshold Of a life without you Empty comforter of your sun streamed naps Empty arms, empty laps Crumbs of spooned meals in my bed take the place where you lay your head An entire year of slow tearing apart Different sections of my heart Little by little - battles lost and won But even now some of you is gone Forever- the word that burns with grief Our deep bond cut short way too brief On your journey a part of me goes your way. My sad soul will never be the same.
