Our prayers continue for Katy and the Mahon family… below is an update from the family…(Team Katy) Hi everyone. It has been a couple of frustrating days. As I am sure most everyone has heard, Katy will require a kidney transplant. Biopsy showed that 90% of her kidneys filters are scarred. Today they put in her permacath which will be hidden by her clothes rather than just hanging out the side of her neck. She remains in good spirits and still amazes us daily. There is still a lot of stuff that needs to be done before she can go on the transplant list. She is on Solu-Medrol (steroids) to stop the autoimmune response that put her here and attempt to keep what she has left, functioning at its highest level possible. There are other things also but I wont bore you with all the details. NC (according to her NC Nephrologist) has one of the shortest wait times for pediatric transplants, 3-6 months being the average.
