Our response to the dull and inaccurate EDGE in the Stockton - TopicsExpress

Our response to the dull and inaccurate EDGE in the Stockton Record today. Dear Mr. Klocke: It might have served the community better if you had verified some facts about Restore the Deltas May 13th BDCP Letter Writing Event, before shooting off an inaccurate assessment for the May 4, 2014 publication of The Edge. Restore the Delta is running a program in which we will show people how to address their comments, to whom they should address their comments, what protocols must be followed for their comments to be considered, and offer a series of facts on well over a dozen problem areas with the BDCP. If any of your reporters would have attended our three-day training session for activists last year, the paper might have known that is how we conduct business. We educate and empower people on how to take action for themselves. On the other hand, if you and the editors at The Record think that the average person on the street can negotiate a 40,000 page document in his or her spare time, a document that was written by a cadre of lawyers with the goal of obfuscation, without help from people who work on Delta advocacy around the clock, then it is clear that none of you have looked over the BDCP or its Environmental Impact Report. The BDCP is the biggest economic and environmental threat this region faces. Now is the time for people to work, participate and help -- not to throw stones from the sidelines. Sincerely yours, Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla Executive Director
