Our saints-sages and ancestors have formulated some rules and rituals for the benefit of human beings, which are prevalent even today. These answers number of questions and doubts, raised on common rituals and beliefs. Why river Ganges is considered pious for Hindus? For ages Rives Ganges has been considered as a most pious river for all Hindus. It has lot of religious importance as many pilgrimage cities of Hindus are situated on the banks of this river viz. Hardwar, Allah bad, Varanasi. There are two main reasons for considering it as pious: firstly the water from Ganges does not deteriorated even after keeping for days. This is due to certain minerals dissolved in this water which protects from getting spoiled. Secondly a fable believed by most Hindus that River Ganges first used to flow in heaven. It was brought by Bhagirath to liberate 6000 sons of king Sangar who died due to a curse by a sage. It is believed by most Hindus that one gets rid of all sins by taking bath in Ganges. Most Hindus put Ganges water in the mouth of a dying man so that all his sins are washing away and his soul gets liberated. For all religious rituals, Ganges water is a must.
