Our sanctification begins as an instantaneous act of the Holy - TopicsExpress

Our sanctification begins as an instantaneous act of the Holy Spirit and is carried forward by His continued action in our lives. It takes a deposit of Gods grace to continue to grow in this progressive sanctification. We cannot do it on our own. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to gory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. This scripture explains to us the progressive nature of our sanctification. It is the work of the Holy Spirit, but it involves a response on our part so that we as believers are actively involved in the process. The work of Christ, in our lives, was finished on the cross, but the work of the Holy Spirit in our sanctification is ongoing. Hebrews 10:14 says, He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. This is why Paul says in Colossians 3:8-12 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, blasphemy, filthy language, etc... and to put on tender mercies, kindness, etc... What is Christ asking you to put off today? and what is He asking you to put on? Think about it, this is where the anointing for change comes from.
