Our second review on Students making a Difference is on Martin Ndlovu ,Founder of SKi-Hub SKi-Hub is an Organisation that was founded two months ago, focused at using technology to solve social and economic problems in the community. Martin Ndlovu, the founder, is a third year student in the Department of Computer science who is very passionate about technology and innovation. The HUB is a space where software developers meet and collaborate on different technological projects. It provides space for interaction, internet and software development classes. It also provides issue specific workshops and mentorship programmes for members. A number of projects have been done at Ski Hub and include Zvazvinhu, an online buy and sell site mainly focusing on gadgets, to be launched soon. Another project is “Hooked up” by Paul Mlilo, a student in the Computer Science Department. This is a social site for university students throughout Zimbabwe to interact and deliberate on issues affecting them academically. Membership is free and anyone interested can join SKi-Hub. Members also get the chance to attend technological discussions affecting young people in a platform called #Inkundla. The company is under the leadership of a board of directors comprising the Computer Science Chairperson, (Mr. T. Nyathi); Nokia App Developer, (Gift Gana); (Elizabeth Mhangami), founder of an NGO for child headed families Vanavevhu; (Sonakele Mpofu), Financial Director at Higrow and (Uliana Mozgaleva), Fine artist and art lecturer in the Department of Architecture. The vision is to make Bulawayo the silicon valley of Zimbabwe extending to Africa in a move to resuscitate the industry and foster a technological ecosystem. The organisation has been scouted by Microsoft Africa aimed at bringing Microsoft technology to Africa. It is also looking forward to collaborate with iHUB in Kenya ,BongoHive in Zambia and HypercubeHub in Harare.
