Our speaker for clergy conference was sociologist Elijah Anderson, whose ethnographic work has studied how people navigate shared space in comparison to how they behave and live in segregated and more homogenous spaces. Most public spaces in our country are White Spaces that people of color constantly have to navigate as a condition of their existence. How can we begin to create more cosmopolitan canopies where all are welcome and respected?
