Our story this week is one that speaks to the sacred bond between mother and child. Author Elizabeth Stone said it best when she said, “Making the decision to have a child – it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” On Wednesday, Rebecca met Marie when she came to pick up a quick gift for a holiday swap. After making her choice, Marie inquired about a men’s collection. Rebecca explained that although we didn’t carry any items in the store specifically designed for men, she did have the Gypsy 66 Wrap, a favorite of many men who have shopped at Alex and Ani. As Marie looked at the bracelet she began to tell Rebecca all about her nineteen year old son who was currently living abroad while studying marine biology. Marie had previously gotten her son the Shark Fin when he began his educational journey and was looking for something to add to it for Christmas. As Marie continued to share about her son and list all of his many accomplishments, she was beaming with pride and love. As a new mother herself, Rebecca could relate to the many feelings that come along with being a mother: love, joy, devotion, pride, protection, to name a few. As Marie and Rebecca shared stories and the deep connection they felt with their children, other clients in the store overheard and chimed in with their own inspiring words about their mother – child relationships. With tears in their eyes, each and every mom in the store was instantly connected through the common bond of motherhood. Although their children ranged in age from a 6 month old baby to a 30 year old man, the deep emotions and connection these women share with their children remains unchanged through age, time, or distance. Alex and Ani has provided so many marvelous women with an outlet to connect with their children, allowing them to wear a little piece of their love on their wrist. As Marie was leaving that day, she stopped to hug Rebecca and shared one last piece of advice to our new mom – “Each day is a gift so make every moment count.”
