Our string flinger and keyboard pounding Romeo Mr Stephen Fierz is on deck for interview with a Romeo!! Hey ya go fans! Age: 44 Favorite Color: Blue Favorite Movie: How can you pick just one? I still like the movie Tombstone with Val Kilmer. “Say when.” Position in the Band: Fiddler, keyboard player and backup vocals. How long have you been a Romeo? My first gig with Jamie Campbell and the Redneck Romeos was Dec. 20, 2013. How long have you been active in music? I started violin at 9, piano at 11, and went to college twice for music. I have been playing in bands since high school, but more seriously since 1997. What musical instruments can you play? Violin (fiddle), piano and keyboards, mandolin, bass and a little guitar. Who did you look up to as a musician growing up? That is a hard question to answer. I admire a lot of great musicians and music. On fiddle I would have to say a hero of mine is Mark O’Connor. I also like Alison Krauss and Stuart Duncan. There are so many others… If you could perform with anyone who would it be? It would be fun to perform with Willie Nelson. I’d also take Johnny Cash or Waylon Jennings, but they are not with us anymore. What JCRR song do you enjoy playing the most? Right now I would say Insane Country Girls. Have you ever had an embarrassing moment on stage? Of course, but I think the rule is, if something happens, you smile and laugh it off and move on. Stuff happens. Do you have any tattoos or piercings? No, I am afraid I don’t But I don’t mind them either. Do you have any Pets? I grew up with Labradors, but we have 3 little dogs and one cat. The little dogs are good, they aren’t yippy. I think our Chihuahua thinks she is a Doberman. But the cat rules the roost. What do you like do when you are not performing? I like to fish, spend time outdoors, listen to music, and spend time with family. If you could live anywhere, where it would it be and why? Top 5 places to live other than here: 1. Nashville, Tenn. 2. Ventura, CA. 3. Corpus Christi, TX. 4. Austin, TX. 5. Key West, Fl. Notice these are all south of here. If you could meet anyone alive or deceased, who would it be and why? For someone alive, I’d like to meet the New Orleans piano player extraordinaire Dr. John. I had a dream that he gave me piano lessons, but they haven’t happened yet. For someone dead, that is hard to say. I lost my Dad in 2011, but it would be nice to share with him all the things that have been happening with me recently. I guess it wouldn’t be “meeting” him, but I miss his insights and catching up on current events in the news and in life. Losing a parent is hard. Tell us something about you that people may not know. Being here in the north, not many people know that I can sail and pilot a boat. When I lived in Texas from 1979 to 1989 my parents had a 30 ft. sailboat that we would take up and down the coast. I have very fond memories of the Texas Gulf Coast. Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years? Who really knows? This is like the worst interview question in the world. If you are talking about with the Romeos, it would be nice if we were on tour supporting an album, making good money, and playing the best music we have ever played in our lives. It is never too late. Bonnie Raitt didn’t really hit it until she was 40, even though she had been in music decades before that. Your favorite quote or one liner from a movie? I have so many. Many people remember me for quoting Robert DeNiro in Analyze This. “You, you’re good you.”
