Our unofficial Equity historian Jonathan found this fabulous footage on Vimeo - Actors Equity demonstrating outside Old Parliament House in Canberra, at some time around the birth of Australian TV, 1956. Equity members were calling for the introduction of local content quotas in Australian TV broadcasting. The footage had been retained by ASIO and segments formed part of the recent documentary series, Persons of Interest. You can spot former Labor Leader and others having a look from the balcony of Parliament House, the early leadership of Equity addressing the crowd, and some much younger legends of Australian stage and screen. Equity turns 75 this year. We have a lot of wins to be proud of, defend, and build on. Through our union, weve always been stronger together.
