Out of curiosity I just had a look to compare the price of cigarettes over the years.did anyone know there is a thing called The Big Mac Index of Cigarette Affordability, no jokes, it exists and it compares the price of cigarettes compared to that of a Big Mac. By 2011 Australia ranked fourth on this index, that means Australia is an expensive place to smoke. Figure 13.4.3 indicates that in 2011 Australia ranked fourth in the Big Mac Index of Cigarette Affordabilityiii meaning that cigarettes in Australia were much less affordable relative to the price of McDonalds fast foods than cigarettes and McDonalds fast foods in most other countries.
