Out of ideas for weekend activities? Why not you have a shot at paper marbling! :) In fashion, people use marble designs in nail art. We can use this type of design to design papers. On plain sheets of paper, paper marbling is used to add a painted design. These colourful papers can be used for arts and crafts such as stationary making. The oldest known paper marbling technique originated from Japan and is called Suminagashi through the use of calligraphy inks and water. Best of all, it is suitable for all ages. For beginning marblers, shaving cream is the most popular tool as it is both inexpensive and easily available. Steps involved: 1) Put foam style shaving cream onto a tray or paper plate. 2) Smoothen it to form a flat surface. 3) Add in different colours of liquid paint onto the shaving cream base. 4) Using a toothpick, swirl it into any designs you desire 5) Place the paper on the top of the cream. This is to allow the design to stick onto the paper. 6) Lastly, scrape away excess cream. This is just one of the many ways for paper marbling. Have fun and happy paper marbling! :)
