Out of my mind and into my heart...takes practice. This is one of my favorite lines from Dan Millmans book Peaceful Warrior: Dan: Socrates you are out of your mind Socrates: Its taken a lifetime of practice I love this, it resonates so true for me and I was reflecting on these words as I headed out this morning for my run towards the Hamilton Escarpment stairs. I had not done the stairs for awhile and my mind kept whirling with thoughts like omg this is going to be hard, my legs are going to kill, Ill be out of breath and will be lucky to do one repeat... Yes I too have an untrained mind...which is why I practice training it each day through my daily habits. When I got there I chose instead to do each step like a meditation. Each step I took, I took with deep mindfulness, giving thanks for each step, seeing each step as one of the many in my incredible life. Some steps were difficult, some were joyful and almost brought me to tears. When I reached the top I was so happy and could not wait for more steps...so I repeated this 3 times and each time it was an amazing experience; an experience from my head to my heart. I love it! Staying connected to my heart, each day, takes so much practice which is why Gerry Visca and I are so passionate about what we do at our Tanks and Why Weekends. I know how much work I have to do each day to stay connected to my heart and deeper driving why - life will pull me off course each day, each moment, if I dont practice. Gerry and I have conversations about our driving why all the time, we never stop and I am grateful. One times shots and one off events dont do it for me anymore....what works is going deep with less, finding that one thing that has helped you find out why you exist, the difference you want to make in the world and always doing the work to stay connected to it....practice, practice, practice...a lifetime of it! I love it!
