Over 1 million tourists visited Sharjah in the first half of 2014 . . . . . . . . . . . . . Visitors to the Emirate of Sharjah hit the one-million mark in the first half of 2014, according to the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) on Tuesday. Sharjah recorded a 15% increase in tourist arrival in the first six months from the same period last year when it saw 955,355 tourists. Chairman of the SCTDA, Mohamed Ali Al-Noman said the numbers underscore the sustained, continuing growth of the tourism sector in the emirate. Figures for the first half showed a stable occupancy level of 74% in hotels, despite usually low season of summer months in Sharjah. Guest nights in hotels increased a significant 6% in the low season. This indicates 2014 could be a very rewarding year that will show positive growth figures in the emirate. The SCTDA showed European tourists came out one top, as they accounted for 37% of the total number of visitors. The growth of the tourism sector could be attributed to the efforts done by the authorities of the emirate in targeting new tourism markets in the region and the world. Year-long celebrations have been witnessed in Sharjah to mark the honor of the Capital of Arab Tourism 2015. The highlight will definitely be Sharjah’s distinct tourism product that will be sure to attract large numbers of tourist from around the world in the coming months. #egyptyard
