Over the Thanksgiving as you chow down and inevitably talk about the Fergusson fiasco know this: And those of you who are Caucasian need to listen up . . . If you allow anyone - parent, sibling, cousin, other gerund of Family or friend around you say anything remotely racially disparaging about those people in Fergusson, like they are acting like animals, etc . . . without challenging them or rebuking them . . . You are just as racist as they are . . . I couldnt care less about wanting to keep the piece or not feeling comfortable . . . your concerns are hollow and pathetically minuscule compared to what the Brown Family or the Martin family or what many Black, Hispanic, or other Non-white families deal with or are dealing with having to live in this society under the yoke of this persistent institutional racism and bias! The worry and the fear many of us feel daily for ourselves and our children and loved ones as we simply try to go about our business and just LIVE . . . is an animal that by default you simply will never encounter. You need to be taught and learn how to see it and fight it. And that school starts when you start guaranteeing a fuss when such hate rears its head around you How comfortable do you think we feel? Your discomfort is temporary . . . try dealing with that 24/7 once you leave your home with no chance of escape or getting a break. Can you see yourself in that situation? To have a significant and inextricable part of this countrys citizens living under this heavy, taxing, deadly weight for centuries of the threat of unjustified corporeal destruction on a whim, the burden of spiritual degradation and humiliation, rounded off with being unrelentingly targeted for neutering by a new Jim Crow aka the Prison Industrial Complex . . . Is not good for this country . . . Be a good American and SAY something to them! Be a good human being and MAKE A FUSS! Be a worthwhile citizen of the world and MAKE THEM FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE espousing such points of views! Racism shouldnt have any safe havens ANYWHERE. If youre silent . . . then youre complicit and Ill believe that you believe as they do. And the next time you see a person color at your job, on FB, at your next PTA meeting, in the park . . . or even as your friend . . . you should feel like crap! Because your silence is an insult and a slur to their very humanity. And if you stay silent I would hope you have the integrity to lose their numbers or not talk to them anymore because your action or lack of action more appropriately is the Tao of The Judas . . . and with all the trouble people of color have to deal with . . . we dont need an enemy masquerading as our friends, smiling in our faces, shaking our hands . . . when youve let others slander us in the most base and vile ways. So I would hope youll have the strength and courage tomorrow to do what is right when you get the chance . . . silence is no longer an option if you want to considered a decent and good human being.
