Over the last winter Provincetown, as part of the Cape Light - TopicsExpress

Over the last winter Provincetown, as part of the Cape Light Compact, changed all of its street lights from high-pressure sodium vapor to LED. While there had been concerns about the temperature of the test fixtures installed last summer - they were quite blue - the final result seems to be better balanced. Still a little bright for my liking but acceptable. But the change to the look of the entire town has been remarkable. The throw of the new fixtures is much less than the previous ones and, directed down, there is much less light sent uselessly into the sky. The combination of the new color - from that awful sickly orange - and tighter beam means that on a clear night the stars have become much more visible and there is no longer a hazy orange glow over the entire town. Now if only we could execute this change in Barbados.
