Over the lunch hour yesterday, I walked around the large, oval walking path surrounding the lagoon just off the Summerfest grounds while I read the office. As I was reading, two guys on bikes whizzed by about fifteen feet to my right. One of them looked over at me and yelled, God is a lie! I didnt respond with anything undiaconal, mainly because I didnt come up with the best undiaconal response -- I dont know what youre problem is, pal, but I think we can rule out anorexia -- until today, when they were out of earshot. As I reflect on occasional incidents like these, I find in them a reason for encouragement. You dont provoke open hostility unless youre doing something that threatens those who show it. I view outbursts like this as a symptom of your conscience nagging at you as you try to ignore it, like a painful blister on your heel.
