Over the past 24 hours I have given a lot of thought about participating in this group. I adore a lot of folks on this group, I greatly admire the dedication, energy, and faith this group shows. I deeply respect Debbie Jacobs skill in leading and directing this group and the relentless work of the moderators in guiding the group and tending to the members. I have an overarching goal; to join pets, pet owners, trainers/behaviorists, ethologists (behavior researchers) and veterinarians into a community of mutual understanding and respect. A large part of this is helping each of those groups see the perspective of the other group, which means I spend a lot of time in vet groups relaying the concerns I know from the pet owning community, with ethologists explaining the frustration of vets regarding the applicability of abstract research, and the challenges facing vets that limit their ability to provide the services desired at the speeds desired at the prices desired by many pet owners. I feel confident that the active members of this group are well aware now of the many limitations and challenges vets face in helping dogs with behavior problems. I think most know the discourse of medications and what can help or harm the ability of a vet to prescribe those medications. I have decided to take a sabbatical. I want members to know that they are welcome to reach out to me with questions or if they want help with special projects from a vet who is passionate about client and patient care with a behavioral focus. I hope folks will continue to share the information I and other vets have shared on this group. I will leave this post up for awhile so that any members who want to exchange info can, then Im off to rest and, well, become a better vet while working on abettervet (which I invite everyone to follow, it might give some insights into how your personal veterinarian thinks and works!) Thank you for an awesome experience, be well and kind to yourselves, and help your pets heal through the solid plan fearfuldogs provides!
