Over the past few weeks, I have been asked...what is a commitment ceremony? A commitment ceremony has different meanings to different couples and also how they chose to express their commitment to one another. Most couples who chose to have a commitment ceremony are unable to be married legally for whatever reason. Some chose a non religious ceremony while others chose to have a spiritual or religious ceremony. A commitment ceremony is the same as a marriage ceremony except there is no legal documents. In the beginning of a non religious ceremony, it may begin as such... We gather here in love to honour and to celebrate the happiness of this couple as their lives merge together in one common focus of trust and love. In a religious commitment ceremony, the ceremony may begin... We gather here in the presence of God and his ever lasting love to witness and to celebrate the union of this couple as they bring their love and trust into a single focus and merge their lives as one. Two people who chose to commit their lives to each other in a common purpose take a serious step in their lives that should be honored and respected and not to be taken lightly. It is a decision that not only joins their lives as one but also... their hearts, minds and souls on a forever path in life.
