Over the past few weeks, there has been a video circulating around Facebook that addressed a church of Christ that is supporting the idea and work of a female preacher intern. While many people around the world might see no harm in this, the main question we should ask ourselves is, “What does the Bible say about this issue?” Last Sunday night, Brian Kenyon, our Associate Minister and also the Director of the Florida School of Preaching, discussed this very topic. As you watch his sermon (see the link below), please keep the following verses in mind: Luke 6:46-49 – “46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.” Revelation 22:18-19 – “18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 – “13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. 14 For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.” As Christians, we need to remember that it’s not about our wants or our desires, but rather serving God and doing His will. We hope Brother Kenyon’s sermon will provide you with a clear answer from what the Bible says about the situation, rather than what someone thinks or feels in his or her heart.
