Over the past few years Ive become more observant of businesses of all sizes, but particularly of small businesses. Today, I received an email about the closing of yet another friends business. It made me sad and I realized, over the past four years, Ive witnessed the start up, the growth, and with more than I few, the closing. The owner(s) return to a more structured routine, to promised benefits or to a simpler way of life. Others simply close because the work load was greater than they expected (it always is when you are the bookkeeper, the manager, the janitor, the everything) or the business wasnt as successful as they intended it to be. For whatever reason they close their doors, I always find it sad and I silently pray the reason was for better opportunities. This whole work-for-yourself thing always sounds like a great gig...make your own hours, unlimited vacation days...yeah right... Lets be honest...its TOUGH! And there are days every small business owner questions why they ventured out into the wild in this way. I say all this for two reasons. First, I hope that youll think of your local small businesses next time you need something. However simple it is! The extra few dollars you pay for a light fixture from a local small hardware store may be the very few dollars that went to pay for his daughters dance lessons. If nothing else, I hope youll pray for them and the success of their business or give them a few words of encouragement next time you see them. I believe small businesses are what MAKE a city. They add the variety, the unique, the zest, that keeps locals and visitors coming back for more. Secondly, Ive posted this to say THANK YOU to our amazing customers and friends! Thank you for keeping us around and allowing us to do what we love! We appreciate each and every one of you more than you can imagine and situations like this remind us how blessed we are!! ❤️Lisa
