Over the weekend, I noticed when giving Derrick a bath his foot was bothering him. He has a mad, I hate this face when I give him a bath but this was definitely a that hurts face. After I inspected his foot, I found a lump so into the vet he went Monday. I also noticed the pressure sores on his front feet were worse. The bump on his back left foot his metatarsal bone sticking out. The vet explained that muscle usually covers that bone and protects it. But Derrick doesnt have muscle there. He has gained a lot of muscle in the last year. But the vet said with the nerve damage, the muscle will never get stronger there. She said the bone is so close to the skin, she is very concerned he will bump it and the bone will come through the skin. She also wants to try to stop his front feet from getting worse. As his back legs get worse, the front will get worse from the pressure of how he sits, hops and walks. She is researching to see what we can try to do. He has proved he wont leave bandages on and will rip his fur out to get them off. For now we are putting some anti-inflammatory meds on his front feet and started adequin for the hind leg issues. I also put memory foam rugs all over his room. He already has memory foam in his xpen below his pee pads and vet beds. This all has really bothered me since Monday. It breaks my heart he cant get a break. Tonight I was cleaning up his room and he runs across his room doing binkies. Jumps in the hay box and pauses for a minute. Jumps out and runs another circle around the room and jumps back in the hay box. I think that might have been his way to tell me, it will all be okay. I was laughing at how silly he is. I dont know how he does it. He is always so happy and just takes everything as it comes.
