Over the weekend, Willow, our 13 yr old female foster, was going - TopicsExpress

Over the weekend, Willow, our 13 yr old female foster, was going off her feed. Yesterday she became unstable on her feet, drooling and unable to go up 2 steps back into the house after going out to pee. I carried her to the van and loaded her up for a rush trip to the emergency vet. Blood work showed liver failure and an ultrasound showed her liver and lymph nodes around it were enlarged and had nodules on them. The vet said the probability that she had lymphoma was high but the only way to be sure was a liver biopsy. But Willow always had a smiling face with sparkling eyes but she was semi-unresponsive even after IV fluids and a sugar shot to boost her energy and her eyes said it all. They were blank and unseeing as if she had already left her failing body so I decided to put her to sleep. Willow was gone before the needle was even out of the catheter. Even though I only had her just over 3 months, she had wormed herself into my heart. As I was leaving the vets, a vizsla person I knew happened to be in the lobby and called my name. When I tried to tell her why I was there, I found myself bawling like a baby on her shoulder. Thank you Suzy for being there for me. It helped more than youll ever know. The Vizsla Rescue Haven has had some large vet expenses. Willows was $1,198.00. Before that, we had $2,500 in vet bills over the last 3 months with our previous 2 rescues. If you can possibly help cover these costs so we can continue helping vizslas, it would be greatly appreciated. You can make a tax deductible contribution through PayPal by going to vizslarescuehaven.org/contribute.shtml The double whammy came later that night when I received an email about Kevin who came to me as an 11 yr old 3 legged vizsla deemed un-adoptable by rescue and unwanted by his family. Just a few months after arriving, Kevin was adopted by a young couple and lived a spoiled life for the last 2 1/2 yrs. His owner contacted me with the news that he had been diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma, and he was very anemic. The sudden change was due to a blood tumor bursting in his liver so they had to put him to sleep. He was 13 and a half years old. Another beautiful sweet vizsla gone. Two in one day is almost too much to bear. Kevin is the one on the right and Willow is on the left. Kay --
