Over the weekend my husband and I directed a local talent show. I was the director of the whole affair and he was the music director. The majority of his job was arranging nine songs. At the first rehearsal one of the vocalists (who couldnt read music, this was new to us) totally screwed up the vocal part he had sent her two months ago. She had not bothered to learn the part we had sent her. She proceeded to yell at him and in turn the band. In addition to directing the show, I played woodwinds in the band. She told him he had COMPLETELY ruined her song. Hes calm and diplomatic. Im not. I finally let her have it. When we got home we checked her FB page and saw that she had complained about how we had humiliated her. She humiliated herself. This is a 50 year old woman, mind you. She became the butt of many jokes by the band. One of our musicians (a local band director) had apparently gone home very upset about what had happened. In her husbands words, Ashley was so was so angry I could feel the heat radiating off of her. Which begs the question, Who the hell do non-reading vocalist think they are? I know two things: You dont piss off the waiter because he WILL spit in your food. And you dont mess with the band....its too easy for them to move the song up a third. Or more.
