Over the weekend we received a call about a abandoned pony at a foreclosed house approximately two hours away. Yesterday three of us drove out there to check it out. Upon arriving, we found a mini who certainly could use our help. The situation got complicated as the neighbor knew the owners, so we left him a card asked the owner to contact us and we left. We drove to an area sandwich shop headed out of town, sat and talked about what we had found. We all said we had driven two hours and needed to make sure we knew our rights removing this pony. Bank had requested it, but owner was around somewhere. So we turned back around and stopped at Sheriffs dept seeing if there was a animal control officer on duty. There wasnt, but they took all our info and said they would have someone get in touch with us. Being a holiday weekend, we didnt think we would hear anymore for a while. Before we got home, we had received a call. The animal control officer was out at the property, had seized the pony, and was charging the owners with animal cruelty. We are grateful, beyond means, for an animal control officer that cared so much, she came out on a holiday weekend and made a difference in this minis life. Today, that mini, is beginning a new chapter in her life. She may still come here in a few days, but for now she is safe in the care of a veterinarian and caring people. Thats a successful weekend for us and is why we do what we do! Kudos to all involved!
