Over thirty years ago in 1984 a promising young African American - TopicsExpress

Over thirty years ago in 1984 a promising young African American athlete was provided a business opportunity that if things went well would ultimately cause his grandchildrens grandchildren to have for college, financial stability and to live well. None of us would pass on an opportunity like that. The man I speak of is Michael J. Jordan who as a young man signed a shoe contract with Nike (who by the way makes way more money off of this line of shoes than Jordan makes). Now dont get me wrong, obviously Jordan, like myself is far from a perfect man, and seemingly he is a man, like myself who have made terrible decisions in his lifetime but the decision to sign a contract with Nike was a dynamic decision. I said all of that to say that all of this stuff being posted about Jordan not making his shoes for black kids and not caring about kids getting killed over his shoes is seemingly untrue since the source of those accusations comes from satire and gossip sites that are known for embellishing, and birthing rumors. At best these sites are very distasteful entertainment. Have people been killed over Jordans? Yes! But people have also been killed over airmax; both are made by the same company. Should Jordan say something publicly. In my opinion yes because he carries influence. My question is this, people are murdered over televisions; do we expect a public response from Samsung? People are killed over cars, does that make us call out Chevy or Ford? While I was growing up people were killed over Team Starter Coats and nobody called the owners of those teams who had a contract with and said they needed to say something and as I recall nobody ever started a rumor-mill about any of those team-owners.
