Overall Ive been pretty silent about the recent developments in Gaza. In 1989 I spent a semester in the region, studying the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. It was often said that people who had nothing at stake in the conflict seemed to have lots of say about it, while those who had spent time in the thick of things never knew where to even start. Ive found that to be pretty true. For the most part, my friends page has been blessedly thoughtful and reserved. Ethan Stanislawski, you in particular made a wonderful post that really summed up a lot of what Id been thinking (it was a while ago or else Id track it down). There are a handful of other friends whose posts Ive enjoyed a lot less. Im not naming anyone in particular in that regard, but as a general rule, if youre taking a hard line for one side or the other, and expressing an unwillingness to look at things from the other point of view, then I probably groan a little when I see your posts (I probably like a bunch of other stuff that you say, tho, because hey -- I havent unfriended you, right?). The Balfour Declaration was in 1917, yall. After nearly 100 years, maybe its time to accept that nobodys going anywhere, and everyone either gets to live together or die together, but those are pretty much the only two options. For those who care, Im a Jew. And contrary to what the mainstream media seems to think, that does not necessarily equal pro-Israel. Would I say I am pro-Israel? Sure, but only if I get to say Im pro-Palestine as well. What I really am is pro-peace, and pro-two-state-solution, and pro-were-all-got-to-live-together-so-we-may-as-well-start-doing-it-now. Oh, and if you want to see the kind of shit that makes me want to tear my hair out, then check out this douchebag. The womans just asking you a question, dickhead, but thanks for telling her shell get raped for not agreeing with whatever bullshit you happen to be spouting: my9nj/story/26139599/israelipalestine-conflict-hits-close-to-home
