Overcome And Destroy The Enemy First -1 Against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgement Ex. 12:12 As God would deliver Israel out of the slavery of Egypt, He was to first overcome and destroy the contending gods of the land. It is in this light that the Lord tells us to first overpower and bind our enemy, the devil, before we can impose our authority upon him. Ever before the plagues began to tumble in, God first and foremost disarmed the sorcerers and magicians of Egypt as Aaron’s rod swallowed up all their original magical rods (Ex.7:8-12). That singular act was most foundational to all the subsequent attacks on the spiritual stronghold of Egypt! First was the plague of blood (Ex.7:14-24). It was a blow to all the gods of Egypt as represented by Nile, the sacred river, and thus worshipped under various names and symbols by the Egyptians. And the impact was that fish died, the river smelt, the people were without useable water. The second was the plague of frogs (Ex.8:1-15). This was against the frog-god, also an object of worship in Egypt. The blow was that frogs came out of water and completely covered the land, rooms and kitchens. The third was the plague of gnats (Ex.8:16-19). This was an attack on the helplessness of the insect-god to protect the Egyptians. The impact of this was that all the dust of Egypt became a massive swarm of gnats; and Pharaoh’s magicians were unable to duplicate this; rather acknowledging that it was the “finger of God”. The fourth was a plague of flies (Ex.8:20-32). This was a severe blow to Beelzebub, the god of flies; and the shock was that swarms of flies covered the land. The fifth plague was livestock dying (Ex.9:1-7). This was against Egypt’s gods that were supposed to be manifested in the various animal forms (considered sacred); and the result was that all of Egypt’s livestock died. The message for today is that you don’t spare any enemy in spiritual warfare – total annihilation! My Declaration: The gods that didn’t create the heavens and earth, perish! (Jer.10:11)
