"Overcoming Inertia" A dance production by Tamara Thomas Dance The two evenings of work will integrate hip-hop, Guinea dance, Sabar, Jamaican folk, Umfundalai and Modern into a rich tapestry of social and emotional movement experiences. The program includes an array of newer and older choreography that has been created over the past three years by Tamara Thomas. Pieces such as “Fya Wata Muma” and “Obatala – Revisited” will straddle the fence in re-envisioned folk forms juxtaposed against sounds of jazz and spoken word. The topics that will be discussed in the evening of work, such as critical love, individual and community values, ancestral reverence and perseverance, are discussions that are pressing in our current lived spaces.
