Oxygen The way oxygen is used in the body is a complex process. When we inhale oxygen, it is diffused through membranes and into our red blood cells. This oxygen-rich blood circulates until it finds tissues needing oxygen. When enzymes in the body mix with the oxygen, they initiate metabolic, or oxidative, processes. One of the waste products of the oxidative process is carbon dioxide, which is released into the blood by the cells. It combines with hemoglobin and bicarbonates and goes back to the lungs, where the process begins again. One definition of health in the human body is how efficiently you can absorb and use nutrients and how effectively toxins and wastes can be carried away. Some toxins can only be burned up through the oxidative process, the job of the oxygen-carrying blood cells Read more: livestrong/article/442270-foods-which-oxygenate-the-body/#ixzz2fFCfH7wC
