P3 Studentship: University of Sheffield Plant Production & - TopicsExpress

P3 Studentship: University of Sheffield Plant Production & Protection P3 is a new research initiative at the University of Sheffield that encompasses the expertise in green biology within two of its biology departments: Animal and Plant Sciences (APS) and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBB). Emphasis will be on our research activity across biological scales (genome> transcriptome> proteome> metabolome> whole organisms> ecosystems> global climate) and, in so doing, understanding agricultural systems from ‘gene to ecosystem’. As part of the development of P3, a dedicated doctoral centre for translational plant biology is planned. P3 therefore invites applications for its first studentship for entry 2013. The Studentship is available for one of the following topics: - From hedge to field: the role of soil organic carbon in plant growth and protection: · Prof. Johnathan Leake (APS; [email protected]) · Dr. Duncan Cameron (APS; [email protected]) - Phytohormone cross-talk during plant disease: · Professor Julie Gray (MBB; [email protected]) · Dr. Steve Rolfe (APS; [email protected]) · Dr. Jurriaan Ton (APS; [email protected]) - The molecular control of cereal stomatal development: · Prof. Andrew Fleming (APS; [email protected]) · Prof. Julie Gray (MBB; [email protected]) - Mycorrhizosphere interactions as drivers of plant growth and protection: · Dr. Duncan Cameron (APS; [email protected]) · Prof. Mike Burrell (APS; [email protected]) · Dr. Jurriaan Ton (APS; [email protected]) - Role of small RNAs in trade-offs between plant growth and plant defence: · Dr. Karim Sorefan (MBB; [email protected]) · Dr. Jurriaan Ton (APS; [email protected]) · Dr. Lisa Smith (APS) - Priming of multigenic crop resistance to control parasitic plants: · Prof. Julie Scholes (APS; [email protected]) · Dr. Jurriaan Ton (APS; [email protected]) How to apply: Students with an interest in the above subjects are invited to contact the corresponding group leaders and submit a 2-page CV and a 200 word abstract about the project to Duncan Cameron ([email protected]) or Jurriaan Ton ([email protected]). Students should have UK nationality and have (or expect) to achieve an undergraduate honours degree at 2.1 or higher in a relevant field. As this PhD position is for entry 2013, a rapid turnaround is needed. The deadline is June 14th!
