PAGASA: LPA from east may enter PAR Thursday or Friday January 28, 2014 7:09am 177 3 0 443 A potential cyclone approaching the Philippines from the east may enter the Philippine area of responsibility Thursday or Friday and may start affecting parts of Visayas and Mindanao this weekend, state weather forecasters said Tuesday. PAGASA forecaster Samuel Duran said the LPA will likely affect Eastern Visayas and Caraga, which are still recovering from recent cyclones. The LPA, which could be codenamed Basyang if it becomes a cyclone while inside the PAR, may bring moderate to heavy rain, Duran added. Eastern Visayas is recovering from super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) while Caraga is recovering from an LPA that briefly became Tropical Depression Agaton (Lingling). Duran also warned fishermen against venturing to sea in the countrys eastern seaboards, saying waves there could reach 4.5 meters. Rain PAGASAs 5 a.m. bulletin said the northeast monsoon is still affecting Luzon and Visayas. The whole country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, it added. PAGASA also said moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast to north over Mindanao. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough, it added. PAGASA also said strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon may affect the eastern seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and of Mindanao. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves, it said. — ELR, GMA News
