PAGASA: Tropical depression to enter PAR Tuesday, possible landfall Thursday October 29, 2013 6:05am 179 42 0 353 A tropical depression is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility 7 a.m. Tuesday, state weather forecasters said. However, GMA resident meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz said on Tuesday mornings episode of “Unang Hirit” that despite its entering the PAR, the depression was still to far away to directly affect the weather over the Philippines. Meanwhile, PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza said the depression would be named Vinta on entering the PAR. Magla-landfall siya malapit sa Aurora o Quezon, Thursday afternoon or evening, assuming masusunod ang 24 kph velocity, Mendoza said in an interview on dzBB radio. He also said there was a possibility the tropical depression would intensify into a typhoon, as it was still gathering strength at sea. In its 5 a.m. cyclone alert, PAGASA said the tropical depression was estimated at 1,150 km east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 4 a.m. The depression packed maximum winds of 45 kph near the center and is forecast to move west-northwest at 24 kph. PAGASA said the tropical depression is expected to be 600 km east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes by Wednesday morning. By Thursday morning, it is expected to be 300 km east of Baler, Aurora. By Friday morning, it is projected to be 180 km west of Baguio City. The cyclone will bring 5 to 7.5 mm per hour (moderate to occasionally heavy) rainfall within its 300-km diameter. Tuesday forecast PAGASAs 5 a.m. bulletin said Metro Manila and Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. The rest of the country would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Moderate to occasionally strong winds from the northeast will prevail over northern and eastern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to northwest with slight to moderate seas. — DVM, GMA News
