PAHOA LAVA FLOW update (from dear friends who own a home there): Pahoa is getting its visit from Pele. Lava crossed over the town cemetery today and is about 300 yards from a home. There are about 50-60 homes an buildings in the immediate path. Very strange how this will change that little town. Our hale is perfectly safe. We are miles away from the lava. Our challenge is going to be the highway. In time the main highway from Hilo will be covered. They have a couple of backup road ready that are downslope near the ocean. Eventually they will be covered as well. After that we will only have access through Volcano national park and then on a new road they are carving out of the old Kalapana lava flow and Chain of crates road. So wild. We are heading over there for Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to being there. It will be strange to see lava in town for sure. I have a sense that long term we will be fine there.
