PAKISTAN-MALAYSIA JOINT COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE COOPERATION (JCDC) MEETING HELD IN KUANTAN Islamabad: September 13, 2013 The 11th Meeting of Malaysia – Pakistan Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) was held in Kuantan from 9th to 12th September 2013. The Pakistani delegation was led by Secretary Defence, Lt. Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik while Dato’ Sri Dr. Haji Ismail bin Haji Ahmad, Secretary General, Ministry of Defence headed the Malaysian delegation. Under the forum of JCDC, two parallel meetings; namely, Joint Sub Committee for Military Cooperation and Joint Sub Committee on Defence, Science and Technology and Industrial Cooperation respectively were also held. A Press Release received here from Kuala Lumpur said that both sides reviewed the progress in bilateral defence cooperation and agreed that there was further scope for its expansion in mutually identified fields and areas of interest. Many new joint ventures were also discussed in this regard. In his opening remarks, Lt. Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik stated that Pakistan and Malaysia enjoy close and cooperative relations at the international fora. The cooperation between the armed forces of Malaysia and Pakistan is longstanding and entails exchanges, participation in exercises and training programmes, which are to the mutual advantage of both the sides. He expressed hope that the JCDC meeting will pave the way for further strengthening of this collaboration and Pak-Malaysia bilateral defence ties. Pakistani delegation made presentation on War on Terror and Afghanistan Post ISAF 2014 while the Malaysian side presented on Anti-Piracy Operations in Gulf of Aden and the Malaysian Experience. Secretary General Defence of Malaysia acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution in combating terrorism and militancy. He also appreciated the recent initiatives by Pakistan’s military establishment and intelligence agencies to promote peace and stability in the region and facilitating the Afghan peace dialogue in Doha, Qatar. He further thanked Secretary Defence Pakistan for apprising the house on the Geo-Politics of the region and in depth analysis of Afghan situation from his personal experiences.
