PARADISE LOST FOR THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD. Considering the on-going sociopolitical events in Egypt, some questions are being raised about the fate of minorities in Egypt . As I once pointed out sometime ago, the hatred for, and anti-Christian rhetoric that have been simmering in Egypt for years are now being played out under the the guise of PROTEST OR MATCH FOR DEMOCRACY! (Note the on-going killings, maiming and destruction of Egyptian Coptic Christians). The Muslim Brotherhood feel that their political power was usurped. It was not usurped. It was demised by a popular demand for a reason of intolerance and insensitivity on the part of the Brotherhood. From every event and incident that took place during the period of their shortlived mandate, the Muslim Brotherhood exhibited political immaturity, intolerance and social exclusiveness thereby loosing a golden opportunity to erase the image of terrorism that has become synonymous with them. They were given a 365-day mandate to translate their so-called organizational expertise into a government of inclusion that should have accorded every Egyptian some modicum of worth and respect. But other non-Brotherhood opinions never mattered. Minorities, especially Christians were, and are still at the crossroads and crossfire as their existence as Egyptians is now more threatened than ever. The lessons the Muslim Brotherhood should learn is that time has changed. Egyptians are no longer living in the medieval time when clans, barbarism, feudalism and unquestionable authority held sway. Close to this lesson for the Brotherhood is that good modern governance involves consultation and synergy. Yes. There is no way a fraternity that was engendered by emotion and exclusiveness will take the place of a true national political party. The Muslim Brotherhood should go back to the drawing board, learn from their mistakes, and change their political strategy if they ever want to remain relevant in the scheme of Egyptian politics.
