PARENTS: I wanted to reach out to all of you. Recently we had a near tragedy in our family. Life has been, to say the least, hell this past week. I want to point out that as parents, we need to talk with our kids. Even if you feel like you do all the time. I know I felt that I was on top of everything going on in my kids life. I didnt see signs of trouble. I didnt see signs of despair. I didnt see any cries for help. My Alyssa was in a dark place and I didnt know how to help her. So many of todays kids are brought down with stress, depression, the pressure to fit in socially and anywhere. Not to mention the countless other stresses they are burdened with. My Alyssa has a lot of friends, gets good grades, and is bubbly and outgoing. I had no idea of the demons she was dealing with, alone. Be vigilant in your kids lives. If they seem down, talk to them. Try and get to the root of what is bothering them. Depression is an illness.. and it is real. Kids are learning to deal with their emotions and feelings in completely different ways these days. Somewhere along the line, they learned that by hurting them selves, (like cutting) was the answer to help them cope. So many different ways these kids are hurting themselves.. I saw my daughter every day and night, and I had no idea. I was heartbroken watching my daughter become someone I knew that she wasnt. Right before my eyes. She had gone so far in to depression that she thought that hurting her self, or not living any more was the only answer left for her. I am glad I was able to save my baby girl in time and get her the help she needed. Again, if they seem different, and say they are fine DIG DEEPER!! I know a lot of kids wouldnt be as honest as wed like them to be. I have always been there for my kids, even when they felt I was annoying them or whatever. Kiss and hug your kids.. let them know they are loved. My daughter is getting the help she needs and has a better out look on things as of now. It is a slow progress. Dont be afraid to get them the help they are needing. You never know what lifes twists will come upon you. At least my girl would have known she is loved..
