PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION TO BE ASKED ON:TUESDAY 29TH JULY,2014 TO BE ASKED BY:MR .F.M.MOLAO (TONOTA NORTH) To ask the Minister of Agriculture : i) How many villages in Tonota North Constituency have Veterinary Officers and Agricultural Demonstrators (Balimisi) and how many do not; ii) Whether the scenario as presented enables the Ministry to effectively service the people of this constituency ;and iii) What he is doing in the interim to address this problem RESPONSE Madam Speaker (i) There are extension areas in Tonota North Constituency ;these are Borolong,Mabesekwane,Tonota East,Tonota West ,Sebina ,Mathangwane,Marapong,Matsitama and Mokubilo. These services about fifteen villages within the Constituency. All extension areas are manned by Crop Production Extension Officers (Balimisi),while all but two being Mabesekwa and Matsitama are manned by Veterinary Extension Officers. (ii)The ideal situation is to have an extension officer in all but due to shortage of resources, including manpower, this cannot be achieved. The situation in Tonota North constituency is relatively good as almost all extension areas are manned and the scenario gives satisfactory results. However, effective service delivery is compromised where the extension area is vast or the officer is away from station on other duties. Madam Speaker iii) My Ministry has in the interim, given a dispensation for employment of tempoaray technical officers who are deployed in the vacant extension areas. Thank you.
