PARROT POOP IRONY OF THE DAY: ( a little joke right there..): SOME PEOPLE WITHIN THE BIRD COMMUNITY REALLY NEED TO GET A LIFE Good afternoon everyone. I just arrived back home from San Francisco after attending a memorial service of a good friend of mine who recently passed away losing her battle with breast cancer. I also brought home her umbrella cockatoo, Spencer. While I was gone, I have asked volunteers to keep posting on the Broken Wing page for your enjoyment. One of my volunteers SHARED a story about an umbrella cockatoo who was helped by an organization known as the Crazy Bird Ladies. The volunteer did call me to see if it was alright to post the story and I said as long as there is a SHARE option attached to the story to go ahead. I also stated that maybe by sharing the story it may direct donations to the Crazy Bird Ladies enabling them to help more birds in the future. When I arrived home this afternoon, I read an E-mail authored by Bob Kaegi indicating that I did not have permission to post his story. Not knowing what this person was talking about, I went to his Facebook page and found the attached post that is pictured here. I then went to our Facebook page and found the story that Bob was referring to and deleted it. One of Bobs supporters, a Larry Belkov, sent me the following comment (my remarks are in parenthesis): Greg,- Youve been asked to remove this story. I dont know you and as of yet, havent formed an opinion (like I care). But, if you do not remove this story I will not respect you (like I care). Furthermore, I will campaign against you in the FB avian culture (Oh, I am shaking in my boots!) First and foremost Bob, unlike my critics, I dont stay on Facebook 24/7. I am actually out in the field helping people with their feathered companions on a daily basis. That is why I rely on my volunteers to add posts on our page throughout the day Secondly, there is no copyright infringement when you attach a SHARE option on your story. Third, you indicate that the picture of the umbrella cockatoo attached to your story is not even yours and I have to then assume not a picture of the actual cockatoo that was prolapsing. With that being said, there is no copyright information attached to the picture. The whole intent of my staff was to share a nice story with our Facebook friends with the hope of diverting donations to your cause. Get over it. Sincerely, Greg Kevakian Executive Director Broken Wing PS: The only way Broken Wing would have known about your story is that we received a news feed containing the story. We will delete the responsible party that caused the feed to be sent to us. In the meantime, I strongly suggest that if you do not want certain people to share your stories, educate yourself on the use of Facebook in regards to permissions. Like
