PART I THIS IS A MUST READ There is a video of a Professor in fine art and design beating up a younger colleague and disrupting his examination. Sad that a Professor of fine art and a supposed fellow of the society of Nigerian Artists and a Yemisi Shyllon Chair occupant would descend to an incriminating gutter justice in an attempt to intimidate his colleague and arm twist him to do his bidding. The colleague we learnt had earlier written to the vice Chancellor through him to attend a prestigious and keenly contested artist workshop and community exhibition in South Africa but in a vengeful reaction the HOD seized the application and refused to forward it with an excuse that examination was ongoing and that applicant will be required to conduct his examination by himself Frustrated by this malicious submission and refusal forward the application, the younger colleague who had invested time and money to earn this international research engagement was left with no option than to forward and advance copy to the VC ( a known convention within the system) with a prayer that another colleague has accepted to conduct his examination while on the 10 day trip. It is curious to know that a Professor of art and design who should ordinarily be the custodian of best practices and robust scholarly engagements will be the one to stifle such international intellectual intercourse that would not only edify the younger colleague but would also bring honour to his department, the university and Nigeria. What has happened in the University of Port Harcourt has only served to drag the artists to the mud and it is time we rise together in unison to reject this. We must all say NO to John T. Agberias high handedness, criminal and irresponsible act as it does not represent our collective honour. PART II STATEMENT BY IKE FRANCIS OKONKWO Please watch and save this for public or legal issues should the need arise. This lecturer, Professor J.T. Agberia is in the habit of bullying staff and students. Unfortunately his girlfriend called Ibinabo Jack who sells marijuana in the department of fine arts and design failed my course in drawing which is a fundamental course and therefore not subject to waivers in the university. At a departmental board meeting to approve results of the graduating students I discovered they have passed her in that particular course; so I raised an objection to the effect that the student failed two of my courses out of which one is within the category of a non-waivers courses and that if the university allows her to graduate with the one in painting not with a fundamental course as the drawing course. The HOD (Prof. Agberia) responded that drawing is can be waived but other board members maintained that to the contrary drawing is mandatory and the exam officer Dr. Henry Asante was called to clarify to the board of which he affirmed the boards position. He was asked what happened with my claim and he said he recorded what he saw as approved but I maintained that the student failed. The HOD ruled that we should meet outside to resolve the issue and for the reason the result was inconclusive. Outside I met Asante with Agberia discussing in low tones; when I tried to join them hoping to resolve the issue, the HOD ordered me out of the gathering. After that, Asante called me to say that I made a mistake in entering my result of the candidate and I told him vehemently that I never made that mistake and that if there is ever any mistake that its not from me. I left his presence without resolving the issue. He met the HOD the second time and called me thereafter to reaffirm his position of a possible mistake which I told him that if I have only breath to say something concerning the issue I will still say the same because I note that two of the students among others that failed the course didnt come back for a re-seat. I left him and he met the HOD for the third time after which he called me to say he has discovered the source of the problem, that the girl met him privately to tell him that I told her that I made a mistake in entering her result and that she made a B grade instead of an F grade so he changed it without calling me. I told him I dont have an avenue of such correspondence with the girl and such thing never happened. I left and he called me the forth time this time to show the result spreadsheet where they scored her 65% which is a (B) grade. Since this time the HOD and the girl had been making attempts to hurt me physically and emotionally. I received a text message from the girl which I will forward to you later, I reported the issue to the university professional ethics committee, the school security, the Nigeria Police with its outpost at choba along east/west road and copied the Vice Chancellor and other relevant authorities. I have been called to the ethics panel but the Chairman who is a personal friend to the HOD makes unrestrained effort to shield the girl. His name is Prof Kilani. The last panel I attended, he tries to exonerate the girl with the excuse that she is attending exam and one asks which exam for a student who is supposedly graduated. The story maybe too long so with the background let me stop here by sending a clip of video recorded by the students and me because this forces will stop at nothing as just yesterday burglars came to my house but couldnt gain access. By Gods Grace no harm will come my way but should there be need please turn this to police, lawyers and NGOs make this public. I will scan documents and send to you THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT Ike Francis
