PART THREE: Many cities adopted Capes plan for selling War bonds..The plan was intensive for one day..Those who wished to purchase them would turn on their porch light as a signal to those canvassing the county...$15,340,047.70 was collected in ONE DAY... Four Civil War cannons graced the court house lawn until sold for scrap...Typewriters sugar and coffee, bicycles, rubber boots, felt hats, fuel oil ,automobiles and tires were impossible to buy or find. The cuffs on mens trousers were no longer allowed and the length for womens dresses and skirts was regulated to save material...Everyone , no mater what age was involved in the War effort.
