PASTORS CORNER My Dear People We first think of Advent as a time to prepare for the coming of Jesus. Indeed Advent (to come to) is about the fact that God first loved us (1 John 4, 19) when He breathed a part of His Spirit into us and gave us the gift of our souls. Through Jesus’ death and rising he was also the first to reconcile us. God continues to wait for us. God is always ready to be the first to reach out to us with words of healing and consolation. As Catholics we respond to God’s initiative through the Sacrament of Reconciliation by which heal our relationships with others and with God. This week the parishes of our area move into this in a big way. On Tuesday there will be a Communal Reconciliation Service at St. Bartholomew (Columbus) at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday, there will be a Communal Reconciliation Service at St. Martin’s (Martinsville) at 7:00 pm. On Friday we will have the opportunity for the youth in St. Rose School to celebrate the sacrament. And on Sunday Dec. 14 we will have the Communal Reconciliation Service at St. Rose for both Holy Trinity and St. Rose. It is important to note that Advent is only complete when we make it a 2-way journey. God has and continues to make Himself present to us. We in turn must open up ourselves to God. We can begin this at home, on the way to work, or in church. Anywhere we are we can pause and examine our lives and consciences. Where have we fallen short of the call to love God and others? Where can we exercise more fully our capacity for holiness? Take some time today and tomorrow to prepare to meet the Lord halfway this Advent! La Misa De Nuestra Senora De Guadelupe – On Friday we will celebrate a mass in Spanish at Holy Trinity at 6:30 pm on the anniversary of the appearance of Mary to Juan Diego. This is a day of critical importance for the indigenous people of Mexico. Up until that day in the early 16th century, Native Americans were not baptized by the church. After the appearance of Mary to Juan Diego, a Native American, the church fully accepted them into the church. The day celebrate the spiritual emancipation of the indigenous people of Mexico. Pray for all of our Latino sisters and brothers on this important day. Fr. Steve Please note, that I’ll be at all of the reconciliation services listed above. Therefore there will not be daily mass on Tuesday at St. Rose nor Wednesday at Holy Trinity. There will be the regular morning masses at 8:30 am at St. Rose on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
