PATNA: North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) has initiated the process of installing additional high capacitor power transformers in nine districts to strengthen the power distribution system network in the state. These transformers would upgrade the existing low capacity transformers. The nine districts have been identified in the first phase because of perpetual problems of low voltage and power shortage despite adequate power availability. "At present, we cannot provide adequate power supply due to the low capacitor transformers in remote districts of North Bihar," said spokesman of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) H R Pandey. Pandey said that the NBPDCL has initiated the process of installing 60 power transformers within a fortnight. The nine districts are Gopalganj (Mirganj, Haziapur), West Champaran (Balmikinagar), Purnia (urban), Begusarai (Bangarhadih), Katihar (industrial area), Kishanganj (Thakurganj), Araria (Forbesganj), Madhubani (Benipatti) and Muzaffarpur (Bangahra). The total estimated cost would be Rs 3 crore, Pandey said. To minimize the loss, the state government has decided to take stringent action against the big defaulters. Chief secretary A K Sinha in his recent videoconference directed the officials concerned as well as the district magistrates to initiate a drive against the big power defaulters in the state. Sinha directed the DMs to start a disconnection drive against defaulters on priority basis. The district level task force has been initiated. Proper inquiry should be done against the disconnected consumers. It is mandatory for all the consumers to have cent per cent power metering and billing, Sinha said. BSPHCL has already installed meters in most of the government flats and bungalows. Till recently, most of such government flats were without proper meters.
