PATS ALBUM OF THE WEEK THE BEACH BOYS - ALL SUMMER LONG This - TopicsExpress

PATS ALBUM OF THE WEEK THE BEACH BOYS - ALL SUMMER LONG This record and Beatles 65 are probably, for sentimental and personal reasons, the two favorite albums of my childhood, they were polar opposites musically, but they changed my life, and I literally wore these albums out! As the days grow shorter and summer draws to a close, I think of this album and grow nostalgic. Growing up in New Jersey in the 1960s, this is the album that made a lot of us East Coast kids want to move to California and/or wish we were Beach Boys living the California Dream! Surfing, Girls On The Beach, Drive-In Movies, Little Hondas, Hot Rods, Skate Boards, Slot Car Racing, Big Daddy Roth, The Byrds, The Wall of Sound, The Monkees, TVs Batman, Shindig, and a whole lot of other really cool stuff that we knew came from the West Coast! We had some really great things out of the tri-state NYC area, especially radio, but California seemed like a magical, totally different and wildly exotic place to us. Our Smithereens bass player, The Thrilla, was born and raised in Los Angeles and was the same age as the rest of The Smithereens when all that really cool West Coast 1960s stuff was happening, and when I ask him what it was like to grow up there back then, he just smiles wistfully at me, says nothing, and simply nods his head in the affirmative, confirming that it was indeed a really special time and place for a kid to grow up in.
