PATTY JACKSONS 4-1-1 WEEK ENDING: April 11th, 2014 Is the friendship over between Reality Star Kandi Burruss and Singer Fantasia? The two besties are reportedly at odds over Fantasias behavior at Kandi’s wedding. Kandi, former Xscape member and co-star of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta, married her fiancé Todd Tucker. It’s been a rough journey for Burruss and Tucker because her mother can’t stand him and feels he is after Burruss money. Shes a successful songwriter who has written number one hits like No Scrubs for TLC and Bills, Bills, Bills for Destinys Child. At the wedding reception, Fantasia was asked to give a toast, and that’s when the curse words and vulgarity poured out. Was Fantasia drunk? Was she trying to be cute? Guests were horrified at her behavior, and the former American Idol champ was told to step away from the mic and sit down. Kandi was shocked. She was questioning her friendship with Fantasia after such an embarrassing incident, but Kandi says she still has love Fantasia. Speaking of Fantasia, shes part of The Dell Music Centers Summer 2014 season. Everything kicks off Thursday, July 10th with The O’Jays and Will Downing. Will is also back with a new project called Euphoria. His stop at the Dell is part of his summer tour promoting the CD. Some of the artists scheduled to perform at the Dell include Roberta Flack, Peabo Bryson, Dru Hill, The Bar-Kays, Lakeside, L.T.D., Lenny Williams, The Average White Band and Larry Graham & Graham Central Station on The Masters Of Funk show. Extant is a sci-fi series produced by Steven Spielberg. Extant premieres July 9th on CBS. LisaRaye got the last laugh and Single Ladies lives! A couple of weeks ago, VH1 announced that they wouldn’t renew the Queen Latifah produced drama on their network, and it looked like it was over for LisaRaye and crew. But, sister cable network Centric says they are going to pick up their show. Look for Centric to announce the premiere date for season four soon. Jesse Jackson, Jr. is having a hard time adjusting to prison life. The former congressman is serving a 2 ½ year prison term for misusing campaign funds. After a run in with prison guards, he was placed in solitary confinement, and then he was moved from North Carolina to a new facility in Alabama. So what did Jr. do? He was advising other prisoners of their rights behind bars. The guards didn’t like it, and that’s when the problems started. Jr. is scheduled to be released from prison December 31, 2015, and then his wife Sandi starts her prison sentence. She pleaded guilty to falsifying tax returns. The couple, have two young children, have been allowed to serve their sentences at different times. The new season of BET’s Comic View kicks off Tuesday, May 6th with new host Comedienne Sommore. Actress Lupita Nyongo is the covergirl for the latest issue of Marie Claire. The Oscar winner is also in a new beauty campaign for Lancome. After 32 years in late night, David Letterman has announced his retirement. The comedian started NBCs post Tonight Show franchise Late Night as that shows first host in 1982. After being passed up for The Tonight Show in favor of Jay Leno, Letterman moved to CBS with The Late Show in 1993. Letterman will step away from TV sometime in 2015. Now the big question is, who will replace Letterman? Could it be Comedian and former HBO Talk Show Host Chris Rock? Or, maybe it’s time for a woman to do a late night show. Congrats to Philadelphia Phillies Shortstop Jimmy Rollins and his wife Johari. They recently welcomed a new addition to their family. Johari gave birth to a b aby girl, Logan Aliya, joining her older sister, Camryn. The blockbuster Ride Along comes out on DVD and Blu Ray April 15th. The hit movie stars Kevin Hart, Ice Cube and Tika Sumpter. Congrats to Tavis Smiley. The author/talk show host/activist is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame April 24th. The 2014 Billboard Music Awards air Sunday, May 18th on ABC. Pharrell Williams, Beyonce, Jay-Z, R Kelly and Robin Thicke are up for awards. Famed Actor Mickey Rooney has died. One of the last actors of the famous Hollywood studio system, Rooney began his career in Vaudeville as a child performer. He soon signed to the legendary MGM studios and became famous for his performances in Boys Town and the Andy Hardy movie series. Rooney was the highest paid actor in Hollywood for several years and was the top office draw from 1939-41. After outgrowing his teenage stardom, Rooneys life took many turns in career, love and money. He was married eight times and had 9 children. Management problems caused him to file for bankruptcy, and he became a character actor in film and TV to rebuild his career. Despite an elder abuse scandal between him, his wife and stepson, the Oscar nominated Rooneys final film appearance will be a scene in the upcoming sequel to A Night At The Museum, which hes appeared in previously. His last TV appearance was as an audience member of Jay Lenos final Tonight Show earlier this year. Mickey Rooney was 93. He’s no longer an Eagle, but now he’s a Redskin. NFL Pro Desean Jackson signed a three-year deal with the Washington team worth $24 million with $16 million guaranteed. VH1s Hollywood Exes returns Wednesday, April 30th at 9pm. Author Nelson George is back with a new book about Soul Train. The book, The Hippest Trip In America: Soul Train And The Evolution Of Culture And Style, is out now. Georges previous books included Where Did Our Love Go: The Rise And Fall Of Motown; Hip Hop America and The Death Of Rhythm And Blues. The Soul Train book is a fond look back on the record breaking music program that enjoyed a 35-year run through soul, disco, new jack, rap, neo-soul and hip hop. The UNCF Evening Of Stars, to benefit the United Negro College Fund, will be hosted by Anthony Anderson and air on BET Sunday, April 13th at 10pm. This annual television event began as The Lou Rawls Parade Of Stars back in 1979. This years performances include Jill Scott, Usher, Cedric The Entertainer, Tye Tribbet and Ron Isley. Questlove will be inducting his fellow Philadelphians Hall & Oates into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Daryl Hall and John Oates are singer/songwriter/musicians who enjoyed a string of successes that eventually made them musics most successful performing duo. Good Morning America Anchor Robin Roberts and Singer Justin Timberlake will be appearing with Oprah Winfrey on OWNs Masterclass. Also coming to OWN is Oscar Winner Octavia Spencer starring in the miniseries Tulsa, and Singer Toni Braxton starring in the original bio-pic about Singer/Actress Darlene Love. Love is best known as playing Danny Glovers wife in the Lethal Weapon movies, but she is a well known background singer who got her acclaim later in her career. She is also one of the singers profiled in the Academy Award-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom. Finally returning to OWN as well is the new season of the Tyler Perry sitcom For Better Or Worse with Michael Jail White and Tasha Smith. Tasha has joined the cast of the much anticipated FOX show Empire. The Lee Daniels produced hip hop drama stars Terrence Howard as a hip hop mogul and Taraji P. Henson as his ex-wife. Malik Yoba (New York Undercover), Singer/Actress Macy Gray and Oscar Nominee Gabourey Sidibe (Precious) have been added to the cast. Empire is slated to debut this fall on FOX. Kindred The Family Soul is returning this summer with a new CD entitled A Couple Of Friends. Tia and Tamera Mowry are on the cover of the latest edition of Ebony. .We honor the life and legacy of Former Philadelphia Newsman Chuck Stone. Along with his 19 years as a columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News (1972-1991), Stone was the first president of the internationally acclaimed National Association Of Black Journalists. He was also a Tuskegee airman. Stone touched all parts of the community to the point where even 75 murder suspects, who would have otherwise remained fugitives, turned themselves into him instead of authorities. Thats how much trust the legendary columnist earned through his storied career. Chuck Stone died at the age of 89. Get ready for Jeff Bradshaw! The trombonist will be releasing his first Live CD, and he is recording it in Philly at the Kimmel Center.
