PAUL NADOR: THE LEGENDARY BELIZEAN GRIO! (7 photos) By Leonides Sanchez From a humble Fisherman to World Class Stardom: Paul Nabor was born on January 26th, 1930. He is a Paranda musician from Punta Gorda, Southern Belize, his music is included on the showcase album Paranda on Stone tree records. Nabor is a widely respected musical talent who has brought the soulful music of the Garifuna people to the rest of the world. Nabor still resides in Punta Gorda, Belize, and can be seen and heard playing his guitar and singing at local events along with his band of Garifuna drummers. On a 2004 visit to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, he was declared a distinguished guest of the city. Nabor was visiting Tegucigalpa for the Honduran release of Garifuna soul, an album by follow Paranda musician, Aurelio Martinez. Nabor performed on Andy Palacios final album Watina, released in 2007, this unique talent of his have taken him the world over. Apart from his musical talent he is also a Garifuna healer and Medicine man (Buyei) he administers to the sick and needy in his community. Every year the Battle of the drums secretariat through the able leadership of Brother Darius Avila host a birthday bashment in his honour. Many local and international artists performs to pay tribute to this legendary icon. As Nabor draw near to his 84th birthday all are anxious and excited to see and hear him perform again. We want to hear that melody of his sweet singing voice. As he struggles to regain his health at this very moment we are asking for your prayers for his speedy recovery. Nabor My Brado you have placed Belize on the international spotlight and every single day you have held your head high as a proud Garifuna. Belize we are indebted to Nabor for such a God given talent lets not be afraid to assist him in words and deeds whatever it takes to help him recover lets do it Belize. Long live Nabi.
