PCG halts sea travel in Bohol, Cebu due to ‘Seniang’ Posted by: Dennis on Dec 29, 2014 Trips of inter-island domestic vessels have been ordered suspended effective yesterday afternoon by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) as public storm warning signal no. 1 has been raised over 23 area including Bohol and Cebu as tropical depression “Seniang” has slightly intensified as it continues to move closer to northeastern Mindanao. Under weather bulletin no. 3 issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon, “Seniang” is expected to make a landfall in Tandag, Surigao del Sur this morning. As of 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon, it was spotted at 150 kilometers East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur having a maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hours near the center and is monitored to be moving west northwest at 13 kilometers per hour. Bohol Gov. Edgar M. Chatto immediately convened the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PRRMC) at the Governor’s Mansion here last night to outline the preparations and disaster readiness of the province. The local weather station has advised the public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin. The local coast guard station here cancelled all trips of the fast craft to and from Tagbilaran as the city experienced a cloudy skies and strong winds. The same order was relayed to the Coast Guard stations in all other port areas in the province including Tubigon, Jagna and Ubay. PAGASA said residents in low lying and mountainous areas of the provinces with sign no. 1 as well as over Eastern Visayas and the rest of Mindanao especially Caraga Region are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Visayas and over the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao. Ocean waves may reach up to 4 meters. Those under storm signal no. 1 includes Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu and Siquijor in the Visayas. The other includes Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostella Valley, Camiguin Island, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Dinagat Province in Mindanao. These areas can experience winds from 30 to 60 kilometers per hour in at least 36 hours. The forecast position of the tropical depression is 30 kilometers west of Tagbilaran City tomorrow morning and 230 kilometers west of Dumaguete City on Wednesday morning. - See more at: unitedfilipinoseafarers.ph/pcg-halts-sea-trave…/…
