PCV Story I clearly remember my first day arriving in Bitola. After living for three months in the small town of Kratovo as a Peace Corps volunteer, it was a six hour bus ride to get from my family there, to the bus station here. There were so many new things to do and experience in the big new city of Bitola. Even now, sixteen months later, I still have not been able to visit all the different coffee shops in the city. Working at Together Macedonia has been a great experience for these past two years. We’ve done numerous projects both locally and internationally, which has given me great opportunities to see Europe and all of Macedonia. I was also fortunate enough to be responsible for leading some of the projects by taking a coordinator role for youth projects in Macedonia, the Czech Republic and United Kingdom. Locally, we have been able to work together on many local projects here in Bitola. Since 2012, we have done local workshops, English conversation hours, festivals, and the most recent project, CLIPS Bitola, which is a current, on-going project aimed at providing leadership training and professional skills development to high school and university aged youth. The project consists of a variety of different workshops, as well as English proficiency and the promotion of volunteering in the Bitola community. In my free time, I enjoy spending the afternoons exploring in Bitola, drinking coffee on the Sirok Sokok, and hiking in Pelister and Smolevo. It’s amazing to be such a dynamic city and see the many years of history that have existed in this region. After sixteen months, I have come to consider Bitola as a second home, and I will be very sad when I must return to the United States next year as a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. The people and community here have made a great impact on my life, and I hope to return one day to see how much has changed.
